The number of homeless people in London is shocking. Please read the following article to get an idea of whats happening in the city...
It is quiet sad to see so many homeless people living in a city which is one of the most rich cities in the world. But there are multiple reasons for this.
We have been providing food and water to the homeless in London for almost 6 years now and have come to know some amazing people, personally, who are homeless. When asked the reasons why they are living on the streets, the stories range from work redundancy, to divorce to disease to family dispute. The reasons are so common that it could happen to any one of us.
Most of these people are usually homeless for a few months or years. Almost every person we have talked to is trying to get back to a normal life. Some of them are studying to gain a degree in order to get a job. Some are working to save enough money to rent a house and some are learning life skills.
No one wants to live on the streets forever and that is what makes helping these individuals even more urgent. It's a phase in their lives when they need our help and support. By providing them with food, water, clothing and basic necessities we give them support while they are trying to get a decent life.
Since the start of this year, we have fed almost 5000 individuals. We always give them sandwiches, snacks, bottled water and drinks. The idea is that, hot food lasts only for one meal but packaged sandwich and snacks last for a few days. In this way they can use the food the next morning or for lunch or for when they dont have anything else to eat. We always encourage our volunteers that they must bring packaged food along with hot food during our feeding the homeless session. Its easy to give food once but it takes a sincere thought to feed the homeless even when there is no one there for them.
